Learn to design your own hand and machine knitting patterns.

Course Overview
This workshop is based around Amy's pattern design techniques and tips, developed over more than ten years of designing knitwear. You’ll learn skills to allow you to design your own hand or machine knitting patterns after the course. The first stage of the workshop covers the selection of yarn, stitches and structures and taking accurate stitch counts. We then look at how to break down complex garment shapes into rectangles and triangles, and learn the processes for calculating these shapes – before putting it all together into a pattern.
During the workshop we use your own existing (hand-made or shop-bought) knitted garments, both as a way of understanding how garments are shaped and as a potential starting point for your own designs. We also look at how to modify existing knitting patterns.
This workshop takes place from 10am to 4.30pm on Saturday, and 10am to 1pm on Sunday, followed by lunch (finished by 2.30pm).
